Effective 'rites of passage' elude American men

 
Rites of passage are typically, ardous/disciplined ceremonies surrounding events/ milestones within puberty, coming of age, marriage and death.

Since ancient times, most cultures have a formal "rite of passage" ceremony or ritual helping children become men and women. In many heavily industrilaized countries today, investments are made in commerce more so than education(see more)

  hlymnky   I had the tip of my penis trimmed off when I was 11, so yeah I think I became a man then. That needs to happen to all men. Why? Because being circumcised at birth is for pussies.

  pundit   A very interesting question to consider. It leads me to wonder if the absence of rituatl/cereomony diminishes ownership young men in particular take in being an adult. A rite of passage likely contributes

Firebird   Although, I've since moved through many immaturities, I fell short of responsibilities as an adult due to misguided good-intention. Soldiers that I've interviewed for films have conveyed that battle situatiuons

  dadvocate   I'm going to take the alternative position, only because i recall those tribes in South America and other places that use tortuous rituals to promote the rite of passage. While i realize the debate question
